July 5th, 2007: I punch in the password on my voicemail account and pick up a message from a fella named Gary who wanted to know if there was any space left for the wakeboard clinic being hosted at Lake Anna on the 7th. Apparently, a few days earlier, his wife was looking for things to do with their kids over the 4th of July weekend. She typed in "wakeboarding" and "Washington, D.C." in a search engine and was soon reading about the DCWake.com family day event only days away. At 5 pm on the 7th, Gary and his family of young wakeboarders were driving home
- with a free wakeskate and multiple videos courtesy of Dave Thacker from the 55 of 26 wakeboard school up in Pennsylvania
- over an hour of instruction from Sean O’Brien and Derek Seaman from the Orlando Wakeboard Academy
- the opportunity to ride behind a brand new MB Tomcat courtesy of Alan at Southern Ski Boats.
Not bad at all for a little internet search! |

IMPORTANT NOTE: It appears that the Lake Anna Civic Association only submitted this plan as an appendix, not as an actual proposal. We have yet to hear from LACA but did find a note on their website: http://www.lakeannavirginia.org/index5.html --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This should be of interest to Lake Anna riders, and all Virginia boaters in general. The Lake Anna Civic Association has been trying to enact new rules for Lake Anna. These rules could be enacted on all lakes in Virginia if they are passed. Their "special plan" has already been submitted to the Louisa Board of Supervisors for review. Part of their special plan includes:
- Waterskiing, speed boating, and sailing will be restricted to the general area between the dam and power plant.
- Direct waterskiing to large expanses, away from narrow areas, beaches, and marinas.
There are more, but these are the two that affect us the most. Essentially, this is about waterfront property owners who are tired of jet boats, fishing boats, and wake boats messing up their serenity. Lake Anna Boating and Recreation Association has been formed in the past two weeks to fight these changes.
You can learn more at http://www.labara.org I urge all of you to join and support this new group. (membership fee is 20 bucks)
